Credit Requirement FAQs

Residency requirements are courses that you must complete at Thomas Edison State University. Residency requirements at Thomas Edison State University do not mean that you must physically come to the University or attend courses at any physical location.

Please note that students who are part of the tuition plans listed below must complete a credit hour residency requirement in order to graduate from Thomas Edison State University:

To determine your enrollment plan, verify your "Student Status" in Online Student Services on your Student Profile page. If the code is one listed below, it relates to an enrollment plan with a credit hour residency requirement:

In order to satisfy the credit requirement for the Per Credit Tuition Plan, students pursuing an associate degree or a bachelor’s degree must earn 16 semester hours of Thomas Edison State University credit via the University’s Online, Nursing Online, Guided Study or e-Pack courses.

In order to satisfy the credit requirement for the Military Degree Completion Program, Navy College Program Distance Learning Partnership or the GoArmyEd Program, service members must earn 12 semester hours for an associate degree and 24 semester hours for a bachelor’s degree of Thomas Edison State University credit. All Thomas Edison State University earned credit satisfies the military credit requirement; including Guided Study/Online/Blended/e-Pack courses, TECEP exams and/or Portfolio Assessment.

Thomas Edison State University Online, Nursing Online, Guided Study and e-Pack courses satisfy the Per Credit Tuition Plan residency requirement.

All Thomas Edison State University earned credit satisfies the military residency requirement; including Guided Study/Online/Blended/e-Pack courses, TECEP exams and/or Portfolio Assessment.

If a credit hour residency applies to your selected tuition plan, it is noted at the end of your Academic Evaluation. Within the note is a listing of the courses you have taken that satisfy the residency requirement, as well as a total of the credits.

On your Unofficial Transcript courses that meet the credit hour residency are listed with a term and the type of course in the section number. GS/OL/SD/EP meet the 16 credit PCTP residency. All TESU credit types meet the military programs residency of 12 for an Associate’s degree and 24 for a Bachelor’s degree.
