When you first apply and receive an acceptance notification from Thomas Edison State University, you are considered an applicant. You will be considered an applicant until you register for your first course and reach the 10th day of your first term. At this point, you are switched to active and enrolled. Once you are enrolled, you will have access to your degree program/academic evaluation for 5 years. Each time you are enrolled in a course this 5 year period is extended.
If you are not enrolled in a course within one year of submitting your application, your status will be switched from applicant to inactive. If you return to TESU after this one year period, you will need to reapply (no fee) and will be placed in a new catalog year. Your initial degree requirements may change and you will start the process again. (See paragraph 1)
If you enroll in a course within the first year, you will remain active/enrolled for another full year, your course performance is not a factor. Each time you are able to demonstrate academic activity by attempting a minimum of 3 credit hours or by submitting documentation of applicable courses completed elsewhere, you are afforded an additional year of active status.
After completing a course, your account will remain active until you go one full year without enrolling in another course. As long as you maintain an enrolled status, you will have access to all student functions. Inactive students can reactivate their enrollment by registering for a minimum 3 credit hour course. You will be governed by the academic policies in place at the time you originally began your program.
Students who have enrolled in a course and become inactive for a period of over 5 years will be required to reapply and fall under a new catalog year’s degree requirements. Students who have been actively pursuing their degree by taking courses elsewhere and transferring in credit for their TESU degree during this five year period will need to be reviewed by a director to determine if an exception to policy should be considered.
