Alisha Miller is an Associate Director and works with our military spouse and dependent students, assisting them with beginning their academic journey with TESU. Alisha began her career with Thomas Edison State University nearly 10 years ago as a part-time military base counselor at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, and then serving as the executive assistant to the Associate Vice President in the Office of Military and Veteran Education. She’s also held an interim role as Acting Director of Military Enrollment Management. Alisha is an active member of two non-profit organizations charged with advocating for the success of military and veteran students: The Council of College and Military Educators (CCME), and The National Association of Institutions for Military Education Services (NAIMES).

Alisha earned a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and a Master of Science in Management from Thomas Edison State University.

What She Has to Say

As the spouse of an active duty Airman for nine years, and now the spouse of a veteran, I genuinely understand the unique lifestyle and obligations of our military spouse and dependent students, which set them apart from traditional students. You may have had to put your academic goals on hold in order to support your spouse and family, or you may be a dependent that is now able to utilize benefits transferred to you. I have first-hand experience using the MyCAA program, as I did so while my husband was in the Air Force, and I can help you understand your funding options and benefits as a spouse or dependent. Both my husband and I are graduates from TESU, so I can walk you through each step of the journey having been in your exact shoes myself once before as a TESU student.

It is with this in mind that I thank you for considering Thomas Edison State University, and hope that I have the privilege of working with you, in order to achieve your academic goals.

Why It Matters

Thomas Edison State University understands that being a military spouse or dependent brings along its own challenges. Because of this, we extend the benefits of our Military Degree Completion Program, including a tuition discount, to eligible family members.

Thomas Edison State University offers a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate programs that may be completed entirely through the University’s online and distance learning courses, so that you can continue with your degree progression regardless of where your sponsor is stationed around the world. We offer multiple associate degree programs in portable degree fields that may be eligible for MyCAA funding.

Chartered by the New Jersey Board of Higher Education in 1972, Thomas Edison State University pioneered and established distance-learning options, long before “online” became our present everyday reality. We have not been idle through the years, as we have also worked to help you take full advantage of your prior work and learning experiences by developing competitive and relevant degree programs, which enable you to transfer the maximum amount of credit.
