Fred C. Rummel Foundation Endowed Scholarship

The Fred C. Rummel Endowed Scholarship was established in 2002 to support single mothers studying at Thomas Edison State University. The scholarship is funded through grants made by the Westfield, N.J., based Fred C. Rummel Foundation, which supports nonprofit healthcare, human service and education entities throughout New Jersey.

Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible for this scholarship, the student must meet the following:

  • Academic Level: Undergraduate or Graduate
  • Enrollment Status: Applicant or Enrolled
  • Type of degree/certificate: Any undergraduate or graduate degree or certificate
  • Other Criteria:
    • Applicant must be a single mother and validate as such in the essay submitted in the application and from information contained in the FAFSA.

Award Criteria: To be considered for an award, the student must meet the following:

  • Meet all eligibility criteria described on the respective scholarship's webpage.
  • Submit a completed Thomas Edison State University Scholarship Application during the application period.
  • Essay demonstrating financial need, academic merit and professional aspirations.
  • Have applied for federal and State (NJ residents only) financial aid through the FAFSA.
  • Submit any required supplemental documentation before the end of the application period.
  • Students enrolled with the University at the time of scholarship application must have:
    • Completed a minimum of 12 Thomas Edison State University credits, with at least six hours being from Online or Guided Study courses.
    • A minimum Thomas Edison State University GPA of 3.0 at the time of application.
    • Successfully completed a minimum of 66 percent of courses attempted at Thomas Edison State University. Incompletes, withdrawals, and failed classes do not count as completed credits.

2019 Winter Award Period (Only for Nursing students in the Accelerated 2nd Degree BSN Progam)
Application Period: January 15 - January 31, 2019
Selection Period: February 15 - 28, 2019
Notification and Recipient Acceptance Period: March 1 - 15, 2019
Disbursement Period: Generally within 2 weeks after receipt of recipient's acceptance

Application Period: June 1 - July 31, 2019
Selection Period: August 1 - 31, 2019
Notification and Recipient Acceptance Period: September 1 - 30, 2019
Disbursement Period: Generally within 2 weeks after receipt of recipient's acceptance
