Thomas Edison State University Launches New 4-Week Accelerated Courses

Flexible new format gives students more control over how quickly, affordably they complete college.

Thomas Edison State University is launching a new Accelerated course format designed to help students earn undergraduate degrees faster, more flexibly and more affordably.

Beginning with the July 2026 term, students will be able to enroll in new 4-week Accelerated courses that allow them to focus on one subject at a time while progressing quickly through their degree programs. Registration for the new format opened in May.

“These new accelerated courses represent another important step in expanding access and flexibility for today’s learners,” said Merodie A. Hancock, president of the University. “We know our students are balancing careers, families and other responsibilities while pursuing their education. This innovative format empowers them to move through their coursework at a pace that fits their lives while saving both time and money on the path to a degree.”

The accelerated format is designed specifically for working adults as it allows students to complete as many as 12 courses, or 36 credits, annually by taking one course during each 4-week session. Students can also combine 4-week Accelerated courses with traditional 12-week undergraduate courses and select graduate-level courses in the University’s Bachelor’s to Master’s programs.

Students may also request a no-cost 8-week extension if additional time is needed, and they can adjust course schedules throughout the term without late-registration fees.

Several of the University’s most popular degree programs can now be completed entirely through the Accelerated format, including:

Students enrolled in any undergraduate degree program may use Accelerated courses to earn credits toward graduation.

The new format is also eligible for financial aid, and students may take advantage of the university’s full-time flat-rate tuition model by spreading 9 to 16 credits across three consecutive 4-week sessions.
