TESU and Aviation High School Enter MOU to Expand Credit for Prior Learning Opportunities

February 23, 2026

Thomas Edison State University (TESU) and Aviation High School in Long Island City, N.Y., have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will allow students to earn college credit for their FAA Airframe and Powerplant Mechanical certifications through TESU’s Professional Learning Review process.

Through this agreement, students may apply earned credits toward select TESU degree programs or place them on an official TESU transcript through the University’s Individual Learning Account (ILA). The ILA option provides students with added flexibility to transfer their credits to another institution if that better supports their academic goals.

Credits earned through this partnership may be applied toward the following TESU degree programs: the Associate of Applied Science in Aviation Support, the Associate of Science in Aviation Maintenance Technology, the Bachelor of Science in Aviation Maintenance Technology, the Bachelor of Science in Aviation Management and the Bachelor of Science in Technical Studies.

“This collaboration is a powerful step forward,” said Dr. Merodie A. Hancock, president of TESU. “By recognizing the value of college-level learning at Aviation High School, we are not only expanding opportunity for students but also accelerating their pathways to degree completion.”

TESU’s Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) Program is designed to recognize college-level learning gained outside the classroom, in this case through FAA aviation certificates earned at Aviation High School.
