November 02, 2026

The Thomas Edison State University (TESU) Foundation has received a $25,000 grant from the Justamere Foundation to support the development of an Electrical Inspector Licensing Training Program designed to prepare qualified candidates for licensure as electrical inspector ICS (industrial and commercial structures) under the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code.

The proposed program will provide a pathway for individuals with technical trade expertise to advance into careers in municipal code enforcement. Envisioned to include instruction, compliance management training and preparation for the state licensing examination, the program will help participants build on their existing experience and pursue new professional opportunities.

Eligible candidates may include journeyman electricians, individuals with associate degrees in code enforcement and licensed contractors or engineers.

“This grant is vital to expand access and remove barriers to trade education for nontraditional students. We are honored to work with Justamere Foundation to strengthen our community,” said Mary Heagley, vice president for Advancement and executive vice president of the TESU Foundation.

The Justamere Foundation is a private foundation that provides scholarships and grants to help individuals overcome barriers to achieving a self-sustaining income. Its areas of support include trade scholarships, veterans' programs, children's literacy and arts education.

“We sincerely appreciate the Justamere Foundation's generous support and its commitment to expanding educational and career opportunities,” said Dr. Jeffrey S. Harmon, provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs at TESU. “This investment will help participants build on their existing skills, develop valuable new competencies and pursue careers that contribute to economic stability and serve the needs of their communities.”
