The Thomas Edison State University Foundation has named three new members to its Board of Directors: Frank Clyburn, president of Primary Care and Women’s Health at Merck & Co., Inc.; entrepreneur and philanthropist Martin Tuchman; and Christopher Zias, senior vice president at U.S. Trust.

“We are honored that these extraordinary men are investing their talents and time to helping us support the mission and work of Thomas Edison State University,” said Brian T. Maloney, chairman of the Thomas Edison State University Foundation Board of Directors. “Frank, Martin and Chris bring a wealth of experience in strategic planning, cultivating relationships and understanding corporate and personal philanthropy. We have just developed on our own strategic plan to guide the Foundation’s future, so their timing in joining the board could not be better.”

The Foundation is focusing on three main goals with its strategic plan: enhancing and expanding its major giving program, with a focus on corporate and individual donors; recalibrating a communications strategy and messaging to support the Foundation’s philanthropic efforts; and enhancing the development and education of Foundation board members to help build capacity.

“This is an exciting time for the Thomas Edison State University Foundation and we are delighted that Frank, Martin and Chris have decided to join the board,” said John Thurber, vice president for Public Affairs at Thomas Edison State University. “They have each already started to contribute their considerable skills to our work and will help ensure our continued success.”

At Merck, Clyburn leads the company’s $21 billion business focusing on primary care and women’s health, which includes cardiovascular, diabetes, respiratory, pain, sleep, bone, general medicine, contraceptives and fertility products. He is a resident of Freehold, N.J.

Tuchman, a resident of Princeton, N.J., serves in a variety of positions, including chairman of Board of Princeton International Properties; a director of SeaCube Container Leasing, Ltd.; vice chairman of the First Choice Bank in Lawrenceville, N.J.; and leading Kingstone Capital V, a private investment group. He also serves as chair of the Tuchman Foundation and the Parkinson Alliance, which funds research focusing on Parkinson’s disease.

At U.S. Trust, Zias leads a team of experienced professionals that serve the needs of ultra-high-net-worth individuals, families and their companies by delivering the broad range of capabilities offered by U.S. Trust and the greater Bank of America organization. He is a resident of Princeton, N.J.
