Clinical Laboratory Science

Turn your passion for science into a fulfilling career. Laboratory testing is critical for diagnoses and the treatment of patients in need. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, many parts of our country are currently facing a shortage of laboratory technicians.

Pave your future in medical testing and research with an Associate in Science (AS) degree in Clinical Laboratory Science from Thomas Edison State University (TESU). Our 60-credit online degree program is limited to certified medical laboratory technologists possessing the required certifications:

  • ASCP or AMT
  • MLT or MT or NCA
  • CLS or CLT

You must present a copy of your original certificate and current renewal card.

Degree Requirements Credits
The following courses are required for the AS degree program with an area of study in Clinical Laboratory Science and can be fulfilled in either the General Education or Electives sections of the degree chart. 11
  • College Algebra

  • Chemistry I with Lab

  • Chemistry II with Lab

  • Certification: ASCP or AMT: MLT or MT or NCA: CLS or CLT copy of original certificate and current renewal card
  • How Students Earn Credit in the Option: Students whose medical laboratory technology training was not completed in a college credit setting should have no difficulty earning credits by Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) for their options, assuming current for recent employment using a variety of laboratory methods

Note: Courses listed in the Area of Study are offered as a guide. Other courses may also be considered appropriate for the program. The inclusion of similar courses must be reviewed by the Evaluation team. Students must submit their program plan for review to ensure that course selection is appropriate for the degree.
