What is the 1098-T?
A 1098-T is an IRS form sent by eligible educational institutions to report qualifying tuition payments, scholarships, and grants received for the tax year, which is required by law. The information provided may be used to determine eligibility of educational tax credits.

Can Thomas Edison State University provide me with information on the tax credits?

Can the University help me determine if I'm eligible for one of the education tax credits?
Unfortunately, the university cannot provide guidance on eligibility. We recommend that you consult a tax professional for further guidance.

How can I get a statement of the tuition and fees I paid the University?
You can obtain a statement of tuition and fees paid through Online Student Services. If you require further guidance, please check out the instructions under the Student Information Hub tile once logged in. If you have any questions regarding the statement, please contact the Office of Student Financial Accounts at studentaccts@tesu.edu.

Can I receive a 1098-T electronically?
Yes. Thomas Edison State University is working with ECSI, which serves more than 1,300 educational institutions throughout the country, to provide our students the opportunity to receive their 1098-T Tax Form electronically. To provide consent to receive your 1098-T form electronically, use the link and the instructions below to enroll.
- Step 1: Visit the ECSI - Sign In or Register page
- Step 2: At the top right of the page click Register to create a profile. If you already have a profile, click Sign In.
- Step 3: Once logged into your account. Navigate to Your Communication Center at the top.
- Step 4: Select Tax Statement eConsent.
- Step 5: At the bottom of the page click Add New Consent. Once clicked the Electronic Consent Application will open below.
- Step 6: Complete the Electronic Consent Application.
- Step 7: Check the box and click Submit & Accept.

What are the benefits of receiving electronic notification?
The benefits are:
- You will have access to the form 1098-T earlier than the traditional mailing process.
- Online access eliminates the chance that the 1098-T will get lost, misdirected, or delayed during delivery, or misplaced once you have received it.
- Signing up for online access is easy and secure.
- You can access your 1098-T form while traveling or away from your home address.

Do I need to ensure my address information is complete to receive a 1098-T Tax Form?
Yes. Regardless of how you receive your 1098-T, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) requires a complete mailing address on the tax form. The University cannot produce an electronic or paper 1098-T Tax Form if there is missing address information, such as a street, state or zip code.
You can update your address information through student self-service.

When can I expect to receive the 1098-T?
The IRS requires the 1098-T be sent by January 31. In most cases, the form is sent during the last week of January prior to the 31st.

How to view your 1098-T online using Student Self-Service
- Login to myEdison
- Enter your University email address (example: firstname.lastname@students.tesu.edu)
- Enter your password and click Sign In
- Select “Access Student Services” located under “Online Student Services” card.
- Select “Tax Information”
- On the Tax Information page, you can select the 2024 1098-T statement for viewing.
- Select the link to 2024 1098-T Statement to view a copy.
- A PDF of the 1098-T for the year you selected will open. This PDF can be viewed, copied, or saved to your computer
