What are some areas of specialization available in the cybersecurity field that   you don’t normally see publicized?
There are numerous areas of specialization in cybersecurity. Penetration testing is an important one that seeks weaknesses in a digital system that might be exploited by a hacker. Forensics is also an important specialization that examines what went wrong should a breach occur. Security Education & Awareness is primarily interested in preventing a breach by training and educating employees to avoid situations that lead to a breach.

I think I am interested in the cybersecurity field, but I’m not sure. What is the best way for me to learn more about what the field has to offer?
Good question… there are lots of options here. You might consult with an advisor at college, you might do research and read about it (lots of articles out there) or speak to someone in an IT department at your workplace. Perhaps attend a local meeting of an IT/cyber organization. There is much to offer in the field….there are thousands of openings, the future is bright, and the pay scale is very generous for qualified cyber workers with salaries running from $175,000 in some areas of the country.
