Request a GPA

Thomas Edison State University reports grade point averages (GPA) on transcripts.

The GPA is based solely on graded credits earned through Thomas Edison State University course work, regardless of when these credits were earned and regardless of whether the course is used to fulfill a degree requirement.

As of July 1, 2011, final course grades of F, IF, and W awarded for Thomas Edison State University courses which start on or after the July 2011 term will appear on the Thomas Edison State University transcript (along with final course grades of A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, and D). Final course grades of F, IF or W will appear on GPA transcripts for Thomas Edison State University graduate and undergraduate online or Guided Study courses that start on or after July 1, 2011.

Prior to the July 2011 term, grades of F, IF or W will not appear on transcripts nor will F or IF grades be calculated in the Thomas Edison State University GPA. Please note that NC (no credit) grades associated with Thomas Edison State University Prior Learning Assessment (PLA), e-Pack® or TECEP® will continue to be excluded from the transcript, even if the course start date is after July 1, 2011. Should a student not earn credit, the PLA, e-Pack® or TECEP® will not appear on the transcript. Prior to July 1, 2011, only grades which reflected earned credits (A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, and D) were used to calculate the official Thomas Edison State University GPA. Prior to July 1, 2011, courses with grades of F, U, W, I, IF, NC or any other symbol indicating no credit are not recorded on the transcript, nor were they calculated into the GPA. Effective July 1, 2008, term and cumulative Grade Point Averages (GPA) are included on Thomas Edison State University transcripts, which are based on graded credits attempted through Thomas Edison State University coursework. Students who are enrolled with the University as degree-seeking or non-degree seeking as of July 1, 2008, will be issued a transcript that includes GPA, therefore, a separate letter reporting a student's GPA will not be generated.

Prior to July 1, 2008, the GPA was computed internally to ensure that academic GPA requirements were met for each area of study and in the overall degree. A letter of GPA can be provided to Thomas Edison State University graduates from before July 1, 2008, who need it to be sent to an external credentialing body, such as the N.J. Department of Education, Office of Licensure and Credentials. GPA letters cannot be generated for any other reason other than for a credentialing body. GPA letters can not be provided to currently enrolled students or to students who haven’t graduated from Thomas Edison State University.
