For Students Seeking an Advantage In a Fluid Job Market, a New Area of Study Offers Plenty of Silver Linings

The Heaven School of Arts, Sciences, and Technology at Thomas Edison State University (TESU) announced the launch of a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Cloud Computing program today. The university is the first New Jersey state institution to launch a BS degree in this area of study that is completely online. Courses will begin in the July 2022 term.

The new area of study is designed to provide students with a solid foundation and advanced understanding of core IT and cloud computing topics encompassing networking, programming, database management, operating systems, IT architecture, security operations and administration, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data. The program will include topics that are essential for industry-recognized certification exam preparation.

“This workforce-responsive program is ideal for those interested in ramping up their expertise and advancing in their career, or immediately entering a potentially lucrative field with an in-demand credential,” noted Dr. John Aje, dean of the school.

The program provides a comprehensive cloud computing-focused curriculum, including core courses built through an academic partnership with CompTIA. According to Aje, course work includes virtual labs that provide interactive training allowing students to acquire hands-on experience in multiple environments and troubleshoot various real-world scenarios.

“Our objective in launching this program was to enable our students to master cloud computing and related technologies quickly while also offering them the flexibility to progress through the bachelor’s program at a pace that fits their lives and learning style,” said Aje. “With current talent shortages in the field and the need to protect an increasingly hybrid workforce, employers across multiple sectors are clamoring for the level of expertise that this curriculum will deliver.”

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in associated IT careers is projected to grow 13 percent through 2030* (faster than the average compared to other occupations) adding nearly 670,000 new jobs to the workforce.

Current or potential positions for program graduates encompass cloud infrastructure architects, cloud engineers, cloud application developers, computer programming and web developers as well as roles as systems analysts, business analysts, information security analysts, cloud systems administrators, IT support specialists, IT consultants, DevOps, IT architects, IT forensic investigators, healthcare IT specialists and mobile application developers.

Registration for the undergraduate July 2022 term runs now through June 24, 2022.
