Testing Arrangements

Online Testing Option
You may take your TECEP exam online using the University’s Online Proctoring Service (OPS). By choosing this option, you can test in the comfort of your home while being proctored in real time. To use the OPS, you will need a webcam, a computer with a microphone and speakers, and a reliable high-speed Internet connection.

1. First, register for your TECEP by logging into Student Self Service
   1. If you are not enrolled at Thomas Edison State University, use the link above to register as a Non-Matriculated student. Select Access Online Student Services and then I’m new to Online Student Services. Once your application, along with the $50 application fee, has been processed (within 2 business days), you will be emailed a College ID number. Return to the link above to register for your TECEP.
2. Next, schedule an online testing session with ProctorU, our OPS provider. You will need to create a user name and password the first time you log onto the ProctorU scheduling site.
3. When selecting a test date, specify the following:
   1. Institution (Thomas Edison State University).
   2. Term and Credit Type (Select the term in which you are registered and the credit type. For example: June 2017 TECEP specifies the TECEP exam. Do NOT select June 2017 OL/GS or June 2017 EP.
   3. Select your exam (MAR-3230 Advertising TECEP).
   4. Select Find Reservations to see the available test dates. The Classic test option is free. You will be charged if you schedule a date less than 72 hours in the future or choose the Take It Now option, which allows you to test immediately.

Pen/Paper Testing Option
You may take any TECEP exam except MUS-2210 and ENG-2020 in the pen/paper format. The Proctor Request Form can be submitted electronically. You will need to provide the name and contact information of a full-time employee of an accredited college/university or a public library. We recommend you find a location close to your home or work so you have easy access on your test day. If you choose a local college or university, you must use a full-time member of the testing office, a full-time professor or a full-time professional staff member. If you choose your local library, you must use a full-time librarian.

We do not send exams to adjuncts or part-time professors, elementary/high school librarians, employers, corporate training offices, supervisors, members of the clergy, family members or friends. Thomas Edison State University reserves the right to require modification of your proposed proctoring arrangements.

2. Next, submit the Proctor Request Form that is included with your TECEP confirmation email. This will be emailed 2-3 business days after you register.
3. The Office of Test Administration (OTA) will send you an email when your proctor has been approved. Your TECEP will be mailed to your proctor after your proctor is approved and after the official start date of your term.
4. Call your proctor to schedule a time and date to complete your TECEP within the 12 week term. Be sure to confirm that your proctor has received the test before going to your test site on your scheduled test day.

Testing Outside the United States
If you are overseas, you must contact the OTA at testing@tesu.edu before you register for your TECEP. Online testing is not always possible for overseas students because a minimum of two uninterrupted hours of connectivity is required.

Testing for Members of the Military
The Online Proctoring Service (OPS) may not be possible for military students who have restrictions on Internet access or connectivity issues due to location. Pen/paper exams may be the best option. Please use the Proctor Request Form designed specifically for military personnel.
