SafeAssign Replacing Turnitin

Turnitin is an online plagiarism prevention service designed to help you improve your writing and citation skills while maintaining the academic integrity associated with your Thomas Edison State University degree program.
Turnitin is a free service for the University’s enrolled students and Turnitin Similarity Reports are now required in many courses that contain at least one writing assignment. It is important to remember that only you see similarity reports generated by Turnitin until you are ready to submit your assignment to your mentor.

Prior to submitting a Turnitin-required assignment to your mentor, you can upload it to the Turnitin Website. Turnitin matches your content against an extensive database of online resources, journal articles, research papers and other students’ work. Turnitin then generates an similarity report* for your eyes only. Once you receive this report you may resolve occurrences of unoriginal content or citation issues and resubmit your assignment to Turnitin. When it comes time to submit your written assignment to your mentor, just make sure your final Turnitin report accompanies it. Please note: if your assignment requires an accompanying Turnitin Similarity Report but your submission does not include one, your assignment may be deemed incomplete by your mentor.

* Does not apply to students in the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program. DNP students are urged to consult their mentor or review their course instructions on uploading and submitting their assignments via Turnitin.
To find out if a Turnitin Similarity Report is a requirement with a written assignment in your particular course, check your syllabus or ask your mentor. Please note that the Turnitin requirement in some courses will be at the discretion of your mentor.
If a Turnitin Similarity Report requirement is already in your online course syllabus, you will see a "Using Turnitin for Assignments" link on the same page as your syllabus and course calendar. You may also find a Turnitin link within the course module containing the written assignment that requires an accompanying Turnitin Similarity Report. After clicking the link, a pop-up window should appear. Select “Class ID and Class Enrollment Key by Semester" in that pop-up window. Complete the instructions to create a user profile page on the Turnitin site. If a Turnitin Similarity Report is not listed as a requirement in your syllabus, your mentor may still require you to submit a similarity report for selected writing assignments. Your mentor will alert you as to which assignment(s) are involved. If you are required to use Turnitin on one or more assignments, find the “Using Turnitin” block on your myEdison® homepage and follow the instructions above for creating an account.

If Turnitin is not required in your course, you are still free to use the service as a writing and citation resource tool.
All Thomas Edison State University courses in a given term are considered one "Turnitin class." For example, if you are enrolled in three courses (in which Turnitin use is required) in April, you will only have one "Turnitin class." When initially creating your Turnitin account, you are automatically enrolled in the Turnitin class for the term. For every subsequent term, you will need to manually add a class. To enroll manually, click the “Enrolling in a Class” tab located on your Turnitin homepage and enter the corresponding Class ID and Class Enrollment Key. The assignments you see in Turnitin are just placeholders and may not correspond to your particular course since the assignment requirements vary per course.
The assignments listed in Turnitin don’t correspond to any particular class. For example, if you are required to submit an Similarity Report for "Case Study 1," in your course, you may use any of the open assignment slots labeled "Upload Assignment Here."
Open your Turnitin Similarity Report by selecting "View" next to the corresponding assignment slot in Turnitin. Once your Similarity Report appears, select the numerical value on the right side of the screen which is your similarity score. Selecting the similarity score will highlight the score along with any sources found associated with it. Next, select the "download" button below your similarity score. Select the first resulting option "Download current view." Please note: Saving and uploading only your receipt does not provide your mentor any details on the report beside proof of submission.

You will need to upload both your assignment and your final Turnitin Similarity Report.
Please note: If your submission does not include your required Turnitin Similarity Report, your assignment may be deemed incomplete and your mentor will not be able to grade it.
