Undergraduate Academic Evaluations

Your academic evaluation information is viewed within the interactive MyProgress degree planning tool. In MyProgress, your overall degree requirements are organized into different sections that need to be fulfilled to earn the degree (i.e. General Education, Area of Study, Electives).

As you complete your degree requirements, the earned credit will appear in your MyProgress planning tool with the corresponding grade. Students can also use MyProgress to find courses that satisfy each degree requirement and plan them for future terms.

“Overall GPA Met” – YES means that you have above the 2.0 necessary for your overall GPA; NO means that you are below an overall 2.0.

“TESU GPA” reflects the GPA of all TESU coursework taken. This must be at least a 2.0 for graduation for undergraduate students, and a 3.0 for graduate students.

If it has been less than three years since you were enrolled in an undergraduate course at Thomas Edison State University, you can log into myEdison® and register for your next course seamlessly. There is no need to complete a new application and your degree requirements stay the same as when you last took courses.

If you have been away longer than three years or were an applicant and never enrolled in a course, you need to reapply to your degree program. When you do, your degree program will be the one in the current catalog, which may result in academic policy and degree program/requirement changes.

Graduate students must maintain continuous enrollment to remain in their existing catalog year requirements.

Coursework that is not used towards your degree is listed at the end of MyProgress under OTHER COURSES. These are credits in subject areas that do not meet your degree requirements, are developmental, have been repeated, have a grade too low to be acceptable, or courses that are not needed to complete your degree.

Some academic policies limit your use of transfer credit:

• Foreign Credit:
  A maximum of 90 semester hours of foreign credit that has been reviewed by certain foreign credential review agencies can be applied toward the requirements of a baccalaureate degree and a maximum of 45 semester hours can be applied toward the requirements of an associate degree.
  
  TESU also only awards credit for courses listed from foreign credential review agencies with an equivalent grade of C and above.

• Community College Credit:
  Thomas Edison State University will accept a maximum of 90 semester hours credit from junior, county or community college toward a baccalaureate degree.
• Subject Area Maximum:
  Thomas Edison State University will accept a maximum of 70 semester hours of credit earned in one subject area toward a baccalaureate degree.
• ACE/NCCRS Maximum:
  Thomas Edison State University limits the number of credits that are accepted in transfer based on courses and examinations approved through the National College Credit Recommendation Service (National CCRS) and the American Council on Education’s (ACE) College Credit Recommendation Service.
  
  A maximum of 90 semester hours of credit may be transferred toward a bachelor’s degree and 45 semester hours may be transferred in toward an associate degree.
  
  Thomas Edison State University accepts courses with a grade of C or better into the area of study of all degrees.

The MyProgress information will be updated whenever additional transcripts or documentation is received by the University following the completion of your initial academic evaluation, provided you are an actively enrolled student. Please note that prior to enrolling with the University, applicants are granted two evaluations of transfer credit.

When a section of the degree is completed using more than the required amount of credits, there is an overage. The number of credits “over” the required amount can often be applied to other sections of the degree.

Students use Student Planning in conjunction with MyProgress to map out a plan to complete the degree requirements. For the requirements where there is not an already completed course(s), you will often see specific TESU course options listed and/or you can search for a list of acceptable TESU courses to fulfill each requirement. Once you’ve identified and planned courses for your degree, you can then ask for an advisor to review and approve them.

This is an internal course number the University assigns to all transferred credits accepted from external sources. Equivalencies are used within the MyProgress degree requirements, not your original transfer credit information.

Applicants and newly admitted students who have received a notice that their transfer credit has been evaluated should review the information in MyProgress. Enrolled students are also encouraged to schedule advising appointments to review their MyProgress degree plan and discuss future courses.
