Commencement FAQ's

Location - Cure Insurance Arena (CIA)

The Cure Insurance Arena (CIA) doors will open at 11:30 am for graduate and guests.

There is lots of free parking around the CIA. There is handicapped parking at Gate A with a handicapped placard or plate.

Balloons, outside food and beverages are not allowed in the arena. Weapons of any type are also not allowed in the Arena. Bags will be searched by CIA staff. Strollers are not permitted in the seating area of the arena and must be stored in designated areas in the concourse/walkway.

Yes, concession stands will be open for sale of items before and during the ceremony.

Yes, an elevator is located on the concourse level at Gate A. Entrances and seating are available on street level.

No, please leave all personal belongings (purses, jackets, etc.) with a family member or friend. CIA or Thomas Edison State University are not responsible for any personal items left in the arena.

Invitation/Attendance Form/Tickets

All graduates from the graduating classes below will receive an emailed invitation, sent in July, with a link to RSVP and order the cap and gown.

2019 September (invitations will be sent as students are certified for graduation)

You can get up to 99 tickets (form allows two digits). When you respond that you will be attending Commencement, you will be prompted for the number of tickets you would like. Children do need tickets. Graduates must also have a ticket, so be sure to include yourself in the count.

Yes - please send email to commencement@tesu.edu with the new number and someone will respond confirming the update.

Graduates will receive an automated response by email when they submit the Commencement Attendance Form.

When entering CIA, go in through Gate A to the ticket office and explain that you lost/forgot your tickets. The ticket attendee will contact a University staff member who will have extra tickets available.

No - but you can purchase them through the University store.

Ceremony

Ceremony is approximately 2 hours long.

As you face the stage, the graduating students will go up the steps to the left of the stage, and exit down the right side steps.

Graduates will be seated on the ground floor in the front with a lane down the middle of two sections. Family and children may not process or sit with graduates during the ceremony. Please ensure that a non-graduating adult is able to stay with children in the arena seating as the staff cannot watch children.

Accommodations

CIA is fully compliant with all ADA accessibility guidelines.

Parking is in the parking lot on Broad Street located in front of Gate A. Handicapped placards or plates are needed for accessible parking and is a first come, first served basis. Service animals/guide dogs are permitted in CIA. All other animals are prohibited.

Guests are responsible for their own wheelchairs and assistive devices. CIA has wheelchair escorts available by stopping by the Guest Services station at Gate A.

Yes, there is a sign language interpreter on the stage during the ceremony.

Photography/Video

Yes, photographs will be taken by professional photographers and graduates will be sent information on purchasing after Commencement. There is no obligation to purchase.

Yes, there will be live feed on our website. In addition, a video of the event will be on the web about a week after the ceremony.
