I was heartbroken to hear the news out of Atlanta this week, coming at a time when hate crimes toward the Asian-American community are on a steady and scary rise. These crimes, and others directed at members of society because of their race, color, religion, gender, national origin, sexual orientation or gender identity, have no place in our community and do not speak to the potential of our country. Now, more than ever, hate crimes must be acknowledged and addressed through our collective efforts.
At TESU, I am especially proud of our students, mentors and staff, who are committed to changing their lives and their communities for a better society for all. Our ongoing discussions about diversity, equity and inclusion align with our strategic goals and mission. By hearing from voices that may be dissimilar to our own we strengthen our decision making and better serve our diverse students and communities. We must support a diversity of perspectives and be mindful of the unique stories of our students and colleagues in everything we do.
