NUR-5290 US Health Policy and Global Health

During this course, students will develop an understanding of health policy including legislative processes and the role of the U.S. government in addressing public health at the local, state, and national levels. Students will examine the synergistic relationship between U.S. health policy and global health. Students will explore nursing's influence in health policy advocacy and its impact on outcomes considering social determinants of health. Students will examine factors that facilitate and hinder the nursing workforce across the globe.

The emphasis for this course is on the elements of evidence-based practice. Focus is placed on the cyclical process of identifying clinical questions, searching and appraising the evidence for potential solutions/innovations, planning and implementing practice changes, evaluating the outcomes, and identifying additional gaps in nursing knowledge. Integration of the existing evidence with clinical judgment, patient preferences, interprofessional perspectives, and other resources forms the basis for the clinical decision-making process that is inherent in improving patient, population, and organizational outcomes. NUR-5160 Advanced Health Assessment

This graduate-level course is an opportunity for experienced RNs and BSNs to advance the intellectual, clinical, and professional skills that underpin expert patient assessment across the lifespan. Students will refine their ability to gather holistic and accurate health histories, perform comprehensive physical examinations of major body systems, and integrate genetic, genomic, cultural, and developmental considerations into advanced assessments. Through structured learning activities, including immersive hands-on practice and student-recorded assessment videos, students will synthesize health history and examination findings to support advanced clinical judgment and differentiate between normal and abnormal results.

NUR-6410 Advanced Pharmacology for Prescribers

This course is designed for nurse practitioners seeking prescriptive authority and provides comprehensive preparation for the safe and effective pharmacological management of patients across all age groups. Students will review and apply principles of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and pharmacotherapeutics in the clinical decision-making process for prescribing, monitoring, and managing drugs used in self-resolving episodic conditions and chronic conditions. This course focuses on clinical decision-making in the prescribing, monitoring, and management of pharmacotherapeutic agents suitable for culturally diverse patients with varying individual needs. Emphasis is placed on proactive risk assessment, prevention of adverse events, and patient education strategies. State and federal laws and processes regulating prescriptive practice and prescriptive authority as well as ethical considerations, are integrated throughout the course.
