MSN e-Portfolio Information

All MSN students are required to create an electronic portfolio (e-Portfolio) that is submitted in the final nursing course. The purpose of this e-Portfolio is to showcase the best work you have completed during your MSN program and reflect on what you have learned and how you have grown professionally during your MSN program. The e-Portfolio supports your professional development, documents your clinical competence, and maps course assignments to your program outcomes. The content of your e-Portfolio are artifacts such as your papers, presentations, and other documents that provide evidence of what you have accomplished in the MSN program and how you have met the MSN program outcomes. In addition to the artifacts, your e-Portfolio includes reflective narratives that give examples and demonstrate what you have learned and how you have grown professionally during your MSN program.

Mapping the e-Portfolio to the MSN outcomes

Students should follow the directions below to establish their Google e-Portfolio.

To create your Nursing e-Portfolio, follow the steps provided in the following video:

  1. Log in to the eCollege portal at my.tesc.edu
  2. Find the “My Unread Messages” block and click. This takes you to your College email. Click on the Google Apps navigation icon (located in the top, right corner of the screen) and choose “Sites.”
  3. Click “Create,” then “Browse Gallery for More,” then “Student Templates,” then select “Nursing e-Portfolio Version 2.” Then scroll to the bottom and click “Select.”
  4. Name your e-Portfolio as Last name, First Name.
  5. Click “Create.”
  6. When your e-Portfolio appears on your screen, go to the upper right hand corner and click “Share.”
  7. In the Add People box, type in nurse.portfolio@students.tesu.edu . At the end of the MSN program you will share your e-Portfolio with your mentor.  Click “Share and Save.”
  8. To return to your e-Portfolio, click the site name on the left side.

It is recommended that students add artifacts as each course is completed. Do not wait until the final course to begin the e-Portfolio process.

Guidelines for Creating and Completing the MSN Google e-Portfolio

Please check your course for more information about the Google V2 ePortfolio rubric, which is currently being revised. Updates will be added within the course.

  1. The first element in the e-Portfolio is titled “About Me.” In the area designated “About Me”, students will provide
    1. name,
    2. contact information,
    3. a current photo, and
    4. a current curriculum vitae (CV) or resume.

      Students will also include in this area a summary of
    5. employment during the most recent three years (name of agency or organization),
    6. type of work (e.g., staff nurse, educator, nurse manager),
    7. professional accomplishments (e.g., developed a protocol for preventing skin breakdown), and
    8. professional development (continuing education programs attended, certifications acquired).
  2. The next seven elements assess how students met the MSN program outcomes. In the designated area for each MSN program outcome, students upload the three (3) best artifacts they produced during the MSN program that provide evidence of having met that outcome. Artifacts can include graded written assignments, Power Point presentations, or other concrete evidence of an activity completed in an MSN course that demonstrates how that outcome was met. Artifacts submitted for each MSN program outcome should reflect work done in more than one MSN course. The artifacts submitted must be the graded assignments showing the mentors’ comments with “Track Changes.” If a mentor did not grade the artifact using “Track Changes,” the grading rubric must be uploaded along with the artifact.

    For each MSN program outcome, students submit a well-written reflective narrative, no longer than one page, that documents how the artifacts submitted, and the courses in which the artifacts were produced, contributed to meeting the outcome. For guidance on writing reflectively, click here. The one page reflective narrative should be uploaded into the appropriate outcome folder within the e-Portfolio.
  3. The next two elements assess writing skills. At the end of the MSN program students are expected to demonstrate graduate level writing skills (coherence, organization, proper grammar and spelling, proper syntax and sentence structure) and appropriate use of APA format.
  4. The last element assesses whether or not all courses the student completed during the MSN program are represented in the e-Portfolio. At least one artifact from each MSN course completed must be included in the e-Portfolio. Students should not include every assignment from every course completed during the MSN course. The e-Portfolio should reflect students’ best work during the MSN program.

After the student addresses how all MSN outcomes were met, including artifacts and reflective statements for each MSN outcome, they should click the "Specialty Competencies" tab. In this section, upload the completed Practicum Evaluation Tool for the first Practicum Course. At the end of the second Practicum course, upload the completed Practicum Evaluation Tool for the second Practicum course.

A “pass” on the e-Portfolio is required to pass the last Practicum course and be certified for graduation.

E-Portfolios are a work in progress that should be created in the first MSN course and updated at the completion of each succeeding course. It is strongly recommended that students not wait until the final MSN course to create an e-Portfolio.
