Navy College Program for Afloat College Education

At Thomas Edison State University, our NCPACE (Navy College Program for Afloat College Education) courses are one of many ways to earn credit and this course format is designed specifically with Active Duty Navy Sailor in mind. TESU offers over 50 NCPACE Courses and terms begin every month.

How NCPACE Courses Work

NCPACE courses are offline, distance-learning courses designed to allow students to continue their education while deployed and without reliable, consistent Internet access. Students complete their assignments independently using texts (purchased separately), study guides and other materials. There is no mentor interaction for NCPACE courses.

To get started:

Completing the Course:

NCPACE courses are designed to be completed without internet; however, the course items must be downloaded prior to deployment/internet non-connectivity. Courses may require textbooks that are not covered by Tuition Assistance. Please visit TESU’s Online bookstore to order required materials.

Once registered, students are directed to download the course content located on a Moodle course page via the myEdison student portal. The course content includes course syllabus, modules, and assignments. A sample timeline is provided so that you are aware of the weekly expectations. Each course requires some or all of the following: written assignments, proctored exams, papers or projects.

Your approved Proctor* will be mailed a course packet, which contains exams as well as a course checklist. Upon completion of all assignments and proctored exams or projects, the approved proctor is to mail all materials back to Thomas Edison State University in the self-addressed, stamped envelope provided. Once the packet is received by TESU, your course will be graded by one of our Mentors.

*The proctor must be a neutral third party with no on-going relationship to the student. This individual must also hold a position of responsibility and have no conflict of interest with either student or TESU. Acceptable as Proctors: Commissioned officers (senior to the student in rank) with no direct supervisory relationship to the student. Additional options: Test Control Officers (TCO), Education Services Officers (ESO), Career Counselors, Base Librarians, Chaplains.
