BA in History

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree program in History prepares adults for career change, advancement or graduate education, while providing personal enrichment. Students are exposed to the discipline of weighing evidence and evaluating interpretations of great events and significant personalities of the past. In doing so, they develop a broad general knowledge of the traditional liberal arts disciplines while developing a greater depth of knowledge in history.

Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the major developments in American history and either world history or Western civilization
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the historical development of at least one non-Western region
  • Articulate the distinctiveness and interconnectedness of different periods of history
  • Distinguish between primary and secondary sources and identify their appropriate use in research projects
  • Apply the main approaches and methodologies within the field of history
