Accounting/CPA

The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) Accounting/Certified Public Accountant (CPA) specialization is designed specifically for accounting students interested in pursuing CPA certification. The program ensures college-level competence of financial, managerial and cost accounting, analyzing earnings performance and auditing, as well as the principles of finance, business and the arts and sciences. The BSBA in Accounting/CPA will provide CPA bound students with the prerequisites required to sit for the CPA exam in the state of New Jersey. The degree is a 120-credit program. Upon graduation, students can seamlessly integrate the program into the CPA and Master’s Track.

  • Required Courses in General Education section:  College Algebra or Quantitative Business Analysis (within Intellectual and Practical Skills section of General Education requirements); and Statistics (within Math section of General Education requirements). 
  • Required Courses: Intermediate Accounting I and II, Advanced Accounting I and II, Federal Income Taxation, Auditing
  • How Students Earn Credit in the Area of Study: All credits in this area of study may be completed with Thomas Edison State University courses and/or exams.

Note 2: Students considering preparation for CPA should contact their  state Board of Accountancy for specific details concerning requirements to sit for the CPA exam and other requirements related to the exam.

Note 4: Other subjects listed can either be courses transferred from other colleges/universities or credits earned through Prior Learning Assessment (see College Catalog for more information on PLA).

IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT ALL BSBA STUDENTS, REGARDLESS OF AREA OF STUDY, INCLUDE A BUSINESS ETHICS SUBJECT AS PART OF THE GENERAL EDUCATION OR ELECTIVES COMPONENT OF THEIR DEGREE.
